Looking Ahead with Confidence
FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Looking back on 2022
I am filled with pride for the impactful work done by our small nonprofit as we end homelessness and rebuild lives. This past year, Miriam’s House served more of our homeless neighbors than in any previous year of our history. We grew programs, added new ones, grew our program staff, and together worked incredibly hard to return homeless families into housing.
This past year, Miriam’s House served more of our homeless neighbors than in any previous year of our history—462, including 140 homeless children!
Thinking back on the year, I am so proud of all that has been accomplished by our committed team. This work is and has always been extremely collaborative. We are fortunate to have so many of you as volunteers, advocates, donors and partners. Together, we:
Served more individuals experiencing homelessness (462) than in any previous year, including 140 homeless children! A 52% increase over 2021.
Hosted our 1st Annual Coldest Night of the Year walk that brought over 250 of you to Magnolia Street and raised over $43,000 to fund our homeless response programs.
Added a new permanent supportive housing program, Central Virginia Supportive Housing, to serve more chronically homeless persons!
Grew our Community First program to continue offering rapid re-housing to EVERY homeless family with children in Central Virginia.
Returned to our annual in-person luncheon for the first time in two years and spent the afternoon with almost 300 of you!
Looking ahead to 2023
I am confident that together we will continue serving our homeless neighbors with kindness and perseverance. This work is hard and will not be absent of challenges but I know that our staff, board, and each of you are committed to a community without homelessness. Every person, every child, deserves the basic dignity of a home, and together, we will ensure this happens in the year ahead.
I wish all of you a safe and joyful New Year!
Kindly,
Sarah Quarantotto, Executive Director
