Key Member Spotlight: Andy Flint
Meet Key Member and long-time friend to Miriam’s House, Andy Flint! We have so valued the support of Andy and his company, LG Flint, over the years. As you will learn below, Andy has been a part of Miriam’s House since the beginning, even before we opened our doors on Magnolia Street in 1994! In addition to all the ways he has supported our work over the years, we were thrilled to have Andy join The Key, our community of monthly givers, last year. We reached out to Andy to learn more about him and his generous commitment to support our work to end homelessness through his ongoing gifts.
MIRIAM’S HOUSE (MH): TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF!
Andy: I was born and raised in Lynchburg. While growing up, I would help out in the family business. In fact, while Miriam’s House was being constructed, I would help out during my school breaks on this project. I went to Virginia Tech and met my wife, Julie, there. Julie went on to pharmacy school at MCV and I started fulltime at L.G. Flint in 1997. Julie and I married in 2000 and decided that Lynchburg would be a great place to raise a family and we have been here ever since! We have three boys, Drew (second year at Georgia Tech), Tyler, and Jake (both at E.C. Glass High School).
MH: THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT NONPROFITS IN THE COMMUNITY. TELL US WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE TO SUPPORT MIRIAM’S HOUSE?
Andy: Our Company constructed Miriam’s House and has performed several renovation and repair projects at MH over the years. We have maintained a close connection to Miriam’s House throughout the years (including being lucky enough to have Jeremiah Quarantotto working at LG Flint). So you could say Miriam’s House is family to us! The Miriam’s House mission to end homelessness is so important, and we are happy to give to this cause.
MH: WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO GIVE MONTHLY?
Andy: This helps us spread our giving throughout the year which helps us on budgeting.
MH: ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE BROADER COMMUNITY TO INSPIRE THEM TO JOIN THE KEY?
Andy: Giving to a local cause like Miriam’s House helps ensure that our contributions will have a much greater local impact.
WHEN NOT HELPING TO END HOMELESSNESS IN LYNCHBURG, I CAN BE FOUND:
Andy: Continuing to grow LG Flint and our new development Blackwater Run. I also serve on the board of our local soccer club (Central Virginia United), and Julie and I enjoy traveling around the state to watch our boys play soccer.
Members of The Key, like Andy, have committed to financially supporting Miriam’s House through a donation amount of their choosing. This support ensures that hundreds of homeless families and individuals are given not only the physical key of a home but keys to independence, opportunity, and safety.
This transformative group of givers, is empowering individuals and unlocking homes and hopes for our most vulnerable neighbors, and we are so grateful.
