We sat down with Tashama to get to know a bit more about her and the work that she does every day in pursuit of our mission to end homelessness.
Miriam’s House (MH): How do you normally describe your job to people unfamiliar with homeless response work?
Tashama Woodberry (TW): I tell them that I get to meet with homeless families while they’re staying in shelter and help them quickly find safe and affordable housing. I do this by removing barriers to their housing like paying their security deposit and then I help the family remain in housing by providing them case management.
MH: What do you enjoy about your job?
TW: I love move-in day! It is so exciting when a family finally gets the keys to their own place and leaves homelessness behind.
MH: What do you like about working for Miriam’s House?
TW: I love that Miriam’s House understands what it takes to get people into housing and how to serve them with dignity. I also just really like helping people and I get to do that at Miriam’s House.
MH: When not ending homelessness, what can we find you doing?
TW: Usually reading, gardening, or spending time with my grandkids.
