Key Member Spotlight: Debi Martin
Since 2017, Debi has provided monthly financial support for our work to end homelessness! Last year, we formed “The Key”, our group of monthly givers to better recognize community members like Debi who truly make our work possible. We reached out to Debi to learn more about her and her generosity and commitment over the years to ending homelessness in this community.
MIRIAM’s house (MH): There are so many great nonprofits in the community. Tell us what made you choose to support Miriam’s House?
Debi: I know what it’s like to need help and not know where to turn, and I know none of us can do life alone. I’ve had friends who lost their homes for various reasons, so I’ve personally seen how crucial help is in these situations. I love Miriam’s House’s commitment to providing assistance and solutions, rather than handouts and “charity.”
MH: Why do you choose to give monthly?
Debi: It’s an easy way to give consistently and support the work that Miriam’s House does. Sadly I don’t have much time to volunteer, but my money can still help.
MH: Anything else you would like to share with the broader community to inspire them to join The Key?
Debi: It’s a privilege to partner with Miriam’s House, and I am truly grateful for the services they provide our community. Monthly giving is a simple way to be a small part of what they do.
MH: WHEN NOT HELPING TO END HOMELESSNESS IN LYNCHBURG, WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU?
Debi: Besides my day job and single parenting, I create and sell hand-dyed yarn and knitting patterns. I also serve on the board of Central Virginia Regional Rescue, so we always have some sort of foster pets in the house.
Members of The Key, like the Debi, have committed to financially supporting Miriam’s House through a donation amount of their choosing. This support ensures that hundreds of homeless families and individuals are given not only the physical key of a home but keys to independence, opportunity, and safety. Debi along with this transformative group of givers is empowering individuals and unlocking homes and hopes for our most vulnerable neighbors, and we are so grateful.
