Key Member Spotlight: Bethany Harrison
Last year, we formalized our group of incredible monthly givers and launched The Key! Bethany Harrison became a monthly supporter of Miriam’s House in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic, and, in these uncertain times, ongoing gifts have never more critical. We reached out to Bethany to learn more about her commitment to our work through her monthly donations.
MIRIAM’S HOUSE (MH): THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT NONPROFITS IN THE COMMUNITY. TELL US WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE TO SUPPORT MIRIAM’S HOUSE?
Bethany Harrison (BH): Miriam's House has cultivated an effective program to address homelessness in our community. Miriam's House not only connects homeless families to stable and affordable housing, they also teach life skills necessary to maintain a stable home and life. This non-profit truly gives a "hand up" for the vulnerable members of our community.
MH: WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO GIVE MONTHLY?
BH: Having worked at a non-profit and worked on the board of non-profits, I know how important it is for these organizations to have a steady, reliable idea of annual giving amounts. By signing up for a monthly donation, Miriam's House has a consistent donation amount each month that allows them to budget their funds appropriately.
MH: ANYTHING ELSE YOU LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE BROADER COMMUNITY TO INSPIRE THEM TO JOIN THE KEY?
BH: When you sign up for a monthly donation with The Key you are supporting a proven program for helping homeless families rise above their circumstances to a better life. The monthly donation doesn't feel as overwhelming as writing a check for one larger amount once or twice a year. If you commit to giving $50 a month, that is $600 a year for Miriam's House. It is easier to adjust your personal budget around the monthly gift. You will be surprised how easy it is to give in this manner and how much good can be done with the funds.
When not helping to end homelessness in Lynchburg, Bethany can be found gardening, traveling with her family, and doing needlework.

The support of these engaged and passionate community members ensures that hundreds of homeless families and individuals are given not only the physical key of a home but keys to independence, opportunity, and safety.
