Key Member Spotlight: Jen Stowers & Adam Webb
At the start of 2020, we formalized our group of incredible monthly givers and launched The Key! Jen Stowers and Adam Webb became monthly supporters of Miriam’s House over the summer, and in the midst of this pandemic, ongoing gifts have never been more critical. We reached out to Jen and Adam to learn more about their commitment to our work through monthly, recurring gifts.
MIRIAM’S HOUSE (MH): THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT NONPROFITS IN THE COMMUNITY. TELL US WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE TO SUPPORT MIRIAM’S HOUSE?
Jen & Adam (J&A): We are lucky to live in a community that has so many amazing nonprofits that do really amazing work. Jen is a nurse and in her years working in the Emergency Department she really saw the impact of not having housing on every aspect of life, especially health. People cannot work on any other part of their lives if their basic needs such as food/shelter are not being met, so it must be addressed in a rapid manner and that is what Miriam's House does.
MH: WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO GIVE MONTHLY?
(J&A): We are getting married and both feel strongly that we want to help make the area we live a better place. We are very lucky to have 3 daughters between us and we want them to know that supporting our community and our neighbors is something to be valued. Our dear friend David Adams introduced us and he passed away January of 2020 and our gift is in memory of him.
MH: ANYTHING ELSE YOU LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE BROADER COMMUNITY TO INSPIRE THEM TO JOIN THE KEY?
(J&A): Read some of the stories of the impact Miriam's house has had on people in our community. That feeling of your first house key and the rush of walking in and knowing you're "Home" is the reason. The Key helps give that feeling to others and that's not something that can be accomplished with one person, it takes a village and we are happy to be part of it.
When not helping to end homelessness in Lynchburg, Jen and Adam can be found staying closer to home than usual due to COVID, but also enjoying tennis, going to the river, and hanging out with their daughters, friends, and family.
Members of The Key, like Jen and Adam, have committed to financially supporting Miriam’s House through a donation amount of their choosing. The support of these engaged and passionate community members ensures that hundreds of homeless families and individuals are given not only the physical key of a home but keys to independence, opportunity, and safety. This transformative group is empowering lives and unlocking homes and hopes for individuals in this community, and we are so grateful.
