18th Annual Luncheon a Smashing Success
On May 23rd, Miriam’s Hosted our 18th Annual Luncheon on the lovely Lynchburg College Campus. Friend and former Board President, Anne Gibbons, emceed the fundraising event with her inevitable enthusiasm and charm. We are so thankful to the over 450 of you who attended the lunch and filled the room. Mr. George D. Vermilya, Jr. was presented with the Elizabeth Forsyth Community Service Award. Under George’s Board leadership as President, Miriam’s House launched a new rapid re-housing project in 2013 which more than doubled the number of homeless families served each year. The highlight of every luncheon is hearing firsthand the impact our supporters have on the lives of vulnerable women and families. This year, our guests heard from Alethea, a single mom of five who became homeless last summer due to a house fire but now is once again in a home and supporting her family due to her perseverance and Miriam’s House’s support. The raffle prizes donated by local businesses brought in record revenues and we are already looking forward to our 19th Annual Luncheon on May 15, 2018. Save the Date!
