New $100,000 Grant for Community First

Miriam’s House was one of 11 organizations across the state to receive a $100,000 Homeless Reduction Grant through the Virginia Housing Trust Fund. This incredible grant will allow Miriam’s House to serve an additional 55 homeless families this year and provide homes for over one hundred children. Our Community First program, focused on re-housing homeless families, has been in operation since November 2013 and has housed over 110 families comprised of 147 children. This grant will dramatically expand this program and ensure that children like Danica (pictured) have a place to call home.

 “We know that stability is key to a child’s success in school and in life. The experience of homelessness for a child is a traumatic disruption of their sense of security”, stated Kristen Nolen, Director of Housing Services. “We prioritize children for our services because we know how extremely vulnerable they are. We can lessen the effects of trauma by quickly reconnecting homeless children with the safety and stability of a home.”
