Welcome New Board Members!
We are incredibly proud to welcome three new board members to our Board of Directors—Robert “Bob” Brennan, Cathie Brown, and Joanna Luper.
Dr. Brennan is a local physician with Infectious Disease Associates of Central Virginia. In addition to his professional work, Bob volunteers on the Coalition for HIV Awareness and Prevention and serves on the School Board for Lynchburg City Schools. Bob is married to Dr. Terry Brennan and they have 4 children and 3 grandchildren. Bob’s interest in homelessness began when he served as a volunteer with The Gateway and served homeless men. When asked about his board service at Miriam’s House, Bob responded, “It is an honor and privilege for me to be a member of this team and I am looking forward to working with the Miriam’s House board and their wonderful staff to further the mission to end homelessness.”
Cathie’s volunteerism at Miriam’s House began in 1993 as she joined her mother, Stella Tanner, who was leading the effort to set up the rooms, build furniture, make the beds and prepare for the grand opening in 1994. Cathie is interested in building upon her mother’s legacy as a founding board member of Miriam’s House through her own board contributions. Cathie is the Vice President of Consulting Services for Clearwater Compliance and has a long history in healthcare, information technology and cybersecurity. In addition to her board service at Miriam’s House, Cathie is the President of the Virginia Chapter of Healthcare Information Managements Systems Society, a board member of Lynchburg Technology Council and Jubilee Family Development Center, and the President of the Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center board.
Joanna’s service began ten years ago when she volunteered at Miriam’s House by assisting homeless women with setting up their new homes and donating household supplies. Joanna works in business development for Movement Mortgage alongside her husband, Will. In addition to her board service through Miriam’s House, Joanna serves on the board of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Central Virginia. She shared, “I have a heart for people and I am excited to bring my passion for people and fundraising experience to the Miriam’s House Board.”
