Key Member Spotlight: Carrie & John Gregory Brown
Last year, we formalized our group of incredible monthly givers and launched The Key! Carrie & John Gregory Brown became monthly supporters of Miriam’s House in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic, and, in these uncertain times, ongoing gifts have never more critical. We reached out to Carrie & John to learn more about them and their commitment to our work through their monthly donations.
Miriam’s house (MH): There are so many great nonprofits in the community. Tell us what made you choose to support Miriam’s House?
Carrie & John Gregory: We were reading about the numerous consequences that the pandemic has had in communities throughout the United States, and among them were increases in domestic violence and homelessness. The mission of Miriam’s House to care for, support, and find housing for women and children seems to us of vital importance at a time like this.
MH: Why do you choose to give monthly?
Carrie & John Gregory: We’re aware that just as we all need continuing sustenance and support in our lives, nonprofit organizations do as well. Giving to Miriam’s House every month means the organization and the Lynchburg community can count on our contribution both now and in the future.
MH: Anything else you would like to share with the broader community to inspire them to join The Key?
Carrie & John Gregory: We’ve lived in Virginia and on the campus of Sweet Briar College for twenty-five years now, and we’re thrilled at all the ways in which Lynchburg, particularly its downtown, has been revitalized. Sometimes, revitalization can leave folks behind, and it’s heartening to know that there are organizations such as Miriam’s House that continue to offer support for those who need it.
When not helping to end homelessness in Lynchburg, Carrie & John Gregory can be found (remotely) visiting their three grown children and two grandchildren, but are looking forward to the time when they can all gather again in person!
Members of The Key, like Carrie & John Gregory, have committed to financially supporting Miriam’s House through a donation amount of their choosing. The support of these engaged and passionate community members ensures that hundreds of homeless families and individuals are given not only the physical key of a home but keys to independence, opportunity, and safety. This transformative group is empowering lives and unlocking homes and hopes for individuals in this community, and we are so grateful.
