|Annual Interns|  |AmeriCorps|  |Volunteering|

Every year we hire three Resident Interns who live on-site building relationships with the residents, participating in community life, and fulfilling staff functions - Resident Care Assistant, Social Services Assistant, and Outreach Coordinator.

 Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree or relevant life experience; experience with homeless women or persons living with AIDS helpful but not necessary. The term is usually from August to August; a second year commitment is negotiable.

Interested individuals may contact o ur current outreach coordinator, Prarna Mansukhani, any time of year for more information:  202-667-1758, x109  •

At Miriam's House, we also welcome to our staff an AmeriCorps Member, through the National AIDS Fund and funded locally by the Washington AIDS Parnership.  In this position, the Member works closely with our nurses in the Health Office.  Application is made through the National AIDS Fundclick here to learn how to apply, and to find out more about this wonderful program.

At Miriam's House, we strive to create a consistent and predictable atmosphere for the residents, many of whose lives have included times of great chaos and instability. Therefore we ask our volunteers to be willing to make a long-term (at least one year), steady commitment to our community.

During Spring/Summer 2008, we saw a long-time dream come true: the installation of a "sacred" or "healing" garden in our back yard. This beautiful space requires careful upkeep and continued monetary donations.  We welcome persons who love gardens, especially those who have an understanding of organic gardening, to contact us about:
     * volunteering time and "sweat-equity"
     * donating money for our Garden Account.

Buddy Program

Many of our residents enjoy befriending a Buddy to attend Miriam's House events and have monthly get-togethers. This relatively new program includes a Volunteer Agreement and a Buddy Agreement that is signed by both the resident and the volunteer.

Over the years, kind and generous individuals have offered massage therapy; healing touch therapy; GED tutoring; yoga; and crafts such as knitting and quilt-making. Such commitments typically involve two to four hours per month.  We would love to hear from you if you can make a steady commitment for at least a year, and have a skill or talent to share with us.

In-Kind / Holiday Donations and Gifts

Our fiscal management style is frugal; first and foremost, we make sure that we are taking care of the day-to-day needs of the women of Miriam's House.  In this context, holiday gifts - in the form of individual gifts for each resident; one large gift for the entire community; a "hands-on" project that benefits the entire community - are most welcome!
