Carolyn Arpin
Carolyn Arpin has been a member of the Miriam’s House Board of Directors since February 2010 and currently serves as our Treasurer.  She has a background in finance, accounting, operations, and human resources management, and her professional experience includes serving as Director of Finance and Operations for a DC-based economic consulting firm.  Carolyn has over ten years’ experience in financial modeling and data analysis, cash flow forecasting, and budgeting.  Over the years, Carolyn has also served as a volunteer with numerous organizations dedicated to bettering the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS including Whitman-Walker Clinic, AIDS Walk, and amfAR.  Carolyn received her B.Sc. in Biochemistry with minor in Management from McGill University in Montreal, and her MBA and MS (Finance) from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.  Areas of graduate study focus included financial strategy and restructuring, valuation, and financial risk management.  Carolyn is a member of the Association for Finance Professionals, and is Chair of our Finance Committee.

Marina Colby
Marina Colby currently serves as the Legislative Advisor to ECPAT-USA (Ending Child Prostitution and Trafficking) and as a liaison to ATEST (Alliance to End Slavery and Trafficking).  Previously, Marina served as the Assistant Director of the International Labor Organization’s Washington Office – a specialized agency of the U.N.  Marina also served as a Rule of Law Legal Specialist in Uzbekistan for the American Bar Association’s Rule of Law Initiative where she worked with Uzbek lawyers to open the first human rights law firm in Uzbekistan.  Marina’s other professional experience includes managing a multi-million dollar corporate funding initiative supporting domestic violence and legal service providers across the United States and in several countries abroad at the National Network to End Domestic Violence; serving as a Policy Analyst at the US Department of Justice; and working as a congressional staffer on Capitol Hill.

Marina received her B.A. in International Studies at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh; her Juris Doctor at the University of Wisconsin Law School; and has completed graduate course work at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C.

Tony Lee
Miriam’s House is grateful for our Board member, Tony Lee, elected in the summer of 2009.   Tony has dedicated both his career and spare time to the development of non-profit organizations.  Since 2008, Tony has served as the Development Services Manager for SOS Children’s Villages-USA, where he is developing SOS-USA’s donor relations and marketing efforts.  Tony has nearly ten years experience in direct marketing, fundraising and event management.  Prior to SOS, he worked for the Humane Society of Washington County in Western Maryland and the National Breast Cancer Coalition in Washington, DC.  Outside business hours, he has been a volunteer leader with a variety of organizations, including the NIH, NARAL and Amnesty International.  Tony has been a volunteer with Amnesty International USA for a decade, where he has held multiple Board-appointed and community leadership roles including service on the National Resolutions Committee, charged with facilitating membership decision-making.  Tony is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Amy Nelson, JD
Amy Nelson is the Supervising Attorney at the Whitman-Walker Clinic Legal Services Program where she manages staff attorneys and maintains her own caseload concerning access to health care, Social Security, Medicare, other public benefit programs, discrimination related to HIV and LGBT status, medical privacy, transgender law, consumer rights, and estate planning.  Before joining Whitman-Walker, Amy represented individuals, for-profit entities and non-profit groups in civil and criminal settings with McDermott, Will & Emery and served as a volunteer attorney for the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless for many years providing direct client representation. Amy graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Economics and George Washington University School of Law with honors where she was a member of the International Law Review. She is a member of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and New York Bars. Before coming to DC, she served as a volunteer team leader for several housing rehabilitation programs in Houston, Texas.  Amy has been a member of the Miriam’s House Board of Directors since July 2006; currently she serves as Secretary.
